New Staffer Comes Online
Semaphore Inc. is proud to announce the hiring of Kevin Shelton as its Web Business Manager. Kevin joined Semaphore June 30 after a stint as Internet producer for the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) in Alexandria, Va.

Kevin’s extensive online experience includes content management, interactivity, design, production direction and client support. A graduate of Clemson University with a Master of Arts in Economics, Kevin’s background and project management skills include work with John Hopkins University’s Center for Technology in Education, Phase Zero, Johnson & Johnson, AOL, PBS and the A&E Television Network.

Communication Certification for Semaphore AE
Semaphore Account Executive Marian Douglas Pearce, APR, recently earned recognition as a professional communicator in a national program offered by the Council of Rural Electric Communicators, which is affiliated with the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA).

Marian is now a Certified Cooperative Communicator (CCC). The CCC credential is offered in order to improve the practice of mass communication and marketing communication in the electric cooperative field. This is done through the establishment of professional development goals, identification of a body of knowledge and skills necessary to the practice of electric co-ops communication, and recognition of those individuals who have demonstrated a professional level of excellence.

In order to achieve certification, Marian had to submit a portfolio of work samples in the field of mass communication and/or marketing communication for evaluation. Her portfolio was judged by communicators in the electric co-op industry who have already earned the CCC designation. She also completed a four-hour written examination.

NRECA is the national service organization for the nation’s nearly 1,000 consumer-owned electric cooperatives, which provide electric service to 35 million people in 46 states.

A combined housing project and launch pad for Web sites. Sites physically reside on server computers and, when requested by somebody typing their URL into a browser, they serve their resident sites up to whoever asks for them. When a server is "down", it stops "serving" and the sites it houses go down with it. Usually, nobody dies when this happens, but it's still very sad.
