| Tips for Increasing your Search Engine Rankings |
1. Navigation
Navigation, while thought of for site usability, is also useful for better search engine rankings. By using proper "anchor text" (the words within the link the reader sees on your page), search robots can more easily find information and rank it accordingly, much like a site user. So avoid at all cost the dreaded "click here" link which describes nothing!
2. Press Releases
Press Releases are great for promotion as well as keeping your site updated and fresh. With more up-to-date and meaningful text in your site, the higher you move in the search engine rankings. As more and more people read and refer to information on your site, your site's search engine rankings will increase.
3. Keep it Fresh
As with the Press Releases, you must keep your site fresh. Search engines like sites that are frequently updated, much as your visitors or customers do. Search engine relevancy is closely associated with the timeliness of your site's content.
4. Link Popularity
Link Popularity is the driving force behind many of today's most popular search engines like Google. The more sites that link to your site, the more popular it is, the more it moves up the search engine rankings.
You can check how many sites are linking to your site by using MarketLeap. You can enter your URL and see how many sites link to yours as well as some benchmark sites. Pay special attention to the Google column as this is one of the most important.
5. Pay-Per-Click
Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertising, or Cost-Per-Click (CPC), is when the search engines sell listings to advertisers based on search keyword criteria. Advertisers pay to have their sites pop up at the top, along the sides, or at the bottom of the page when a user enters a specific keyword related to their products. The more you pay, the more keywords associated, the higher you end up in the advertiser listings. While this is sometimes a costly option, it is the most effective.
